Hawk in flight

A lucky capture. All I had with me was the 7D with a 18-135mm, not long enough to get a full frame image. This is cropped a bit in Lightroom. It’s great to have the 18 mega pixels to allow the cropping. Just a little (very little) adjustment brush to lighten the under side and head of the bird.

Came upon this scene on Saturday evening of a Turkey Vulture having dinner. The image was taken using my car as a blind, the window and a towel as a camera support and a Sigma 120mm-500mm zoom the lens was set at 500mm f8 @ 500th of second with an ISO of 1600 on the canon 7D. A bit of post processing in Lightroom 3.

This slideshow is highlighting some of the images taken last night of the sunset at the Barcelona harbor in Westfield, New York. The slideshow has both the straight out of the camera image and the processed image out of nik software’s HDR efex. Some I feel are over processed, but I’m starting to like the look a little more each time I do it. The straight out of the camera image looks flat and just doesn’t have the pop that the HDR’s have but maybe I’m over doing the processing and getting to much pop, texture, contrast. What do you think? The barn image was also taken yesterday when we had such great clouds so I just included it along with the sunsets.

Barcelona Harbor Time-Laspe V.02

29 07 2011

This time-laspe has been improved by adding an exposure gradient filter to the lower half of all the 600+ images. This was done in Lightroom 3 which makes it very easy to do this correction with their synch function, all 600+ images corrected in minutes. I think this version is a lot better by brightening the foreground so that the activity can be seen in the harbor and along the shoreline.

These images were taken on July 21, 2011. It’s about some of the details you can find around the grounds at Chautauqua. I also tried to use my 10mm-20mm zoom lens on a couple of them, this lens doesn’t get a lot of use so it was an opportunity to force me to use it.

Also check out the images on the Chautauqua Institution flickr group at http://www.flickr.com/groups/chautauqua-institute/

Up at 4am to be on the lake front by the Miller Bell Tower before sunrise. The before sunrise color was better than the color after the sun cleared the mountain. I worked the area from about 5:20 am -8:00 and then shot a couple more images from 9:45-10:30 am.
