Beer Bottle on Black

Beverage photography, black bottle on black background.

This image was produced using a single Paul C. Buff Einstein monolight with a large strip light. The light was moved around the bottle and an exposure was taken on the left side to rim light that side and then the same light was moved to the right side to get the same rim light and then a diffusion panel was placed in front of the strip box to produce the diffused hightlight on the left front side of the bottle and then moved to light up the cap area. These 4 exposures where taken into Photoshop and combined into the single image you see here. Some retouching and sharpening was also added in Photoshop.

This image is a multiple image composite made up of the bottle, then the chrome lid and finally the background. The background was made by using a “lightsword” attached to a small LED flashlight with a blue filter to add the color. The individual components where taken into Photoshop and composited and retouch to clean up any blemishes.

Lightpainting Product Photography

A classic Massey Ferguson tractor in a field, I used a lightpainting technique to give the tractor a unique painterly look that you can’t achieve any other way. Lightpainting like this is done with a small Olight M10 Maverick ┬áLED flashlight and combining multiple images in Photoshop to build up the final image. In this case I used 31 separate images out of 81 total exposures. The tractor was brushed in light in small areas to light each part of the image slightly different but will still blend well with the other 30 images. In Photoshop the images are stacked and blending modes changed and then layer masks where used to help blend all the images together to come up with the final image.

Family Group Portraiture – Commercial Photographer, Jamestown, Chautauqua County New York

I’m not a portrait photographer usually. Usually I spend my time creating images of inanimate objects, Architecture, products and landscapes. A close friend asked me to come up with something special when his kids gathered for fathers day this year. I made an image of each family group separately while standing in the yard of their cottage. Once I had an image of each group I removed the background so that just the people where left. Once that was done I could move the groupings on to any background I would like too. This is what I ended up doing.

A single exposure using action stopping short flash duration to freeze the motion of the make up powder exploding off the lower brush. With the black background you can easily extend it to make room for marketing text and contact information.
