This image is the Straight out of Camera SOOC Normal exposure used to help make the following photograph of one of the rolling stock displays at the National Train Day event held at the Gateway Station Center in Jamestown, New York on May 10th 2013.

This image is the HDR version of the rolling stock image above, it is made up of 3 exposures from a handheld bracket using a normal exposure, a -1 and a -2 to make the HDR.

In the final version of the image you can see that I spent some time in Photoshop removing the people in the image. I had to rebuild part of the building using different portions of the brick facade and doors, as well as parts of the passenger train car and the ground on both sides of the train. Also a little adjustment brush in Lightroom 4 to brighten up the train and the copper observation balcony and upper doors.

These two panoramic images where made on March 24, 2013. Using a Canon 5D Mark iii and a Canon 24-70 2.8L at 42mm. This is a 5 position HDR pano using 4 of the 7 bracketed exposures that I took at the time, that means that I combined 20 exposures 4 at each camera position and then took the resulting 5 images into Photoshop and merged them into a pano. Then I did a little enhancement in both photoshop and Lightroom to come up with what you see here.

Another ad for a local brewery – self assigned photoshop exercise

This is a self assigned photoshop exercise using a couple of images I already had on hand. The beer bottle label on the lighthouse is from the semi truck post made yesterday and the Barcelona lighthouse and harbor is a sunset panorama of the Barcelona lighthouse and harbor in Westfield N.Y. on Lake Erie is from 2010. The label was made to fit the lighthouse using the free transform tool in PS5. Some density control, contrast adjustment, and selective density control with the layers mask and bush tool was used to make the label appear that it is painted on the lighthouse.

Sunrise picture of the Chautauqua Institution’s Miller Bell Tower and Chautauqua Lake N.Y. which is in the western part of New York State in Chautauqua County. Sitting at the computer with 40 degree temps outside and just figured a nice summer time sunrise images would make people feel a little warmer. Hope it worked.

Westfield N.Y. Passenger Train Station
A great looking cut stone train terminal in Westfield N.Y. This is the passenger station on English St. If you look in the windows of the station it looks like the doors were closed in the 1940 and nothings been touched since. Roll top desk, old fan, typewriter, old luggage and packages all just sitting in place. Very neat. I would love to get in and do some images. Not open to the public as far as I know.
These are all 3 image HDRs done in HDR efex pro. The composite was done in PS5.

Westfield freight depot -Straight out of the Camera
Another in this months railway theme.
This image is straight out of the camera. Under exposed to get detail in the sky and of course lost a lot of the detail in the building. Lets see what a Raw file and the non destructive editing in Lightroom 3 can do to bring back the detail in the building.

Passenger train station in Northeast P.A.
This is the Northeast P.A. Passenger train station which is now a railway museum. You can view numerous pieces of rolling stock, view displays inside the station and watch current trains traveling on the still active tracks outside the door. To find out more go to: http: //www.grape-track.org/
The larger image is a single image of the station with some contrast added and some work with the adjustment brush in Lightroom3. The two smaller images are 3 image HDR’s. The 3 images are 2 stops each side of normal, the -2 stop image allows the blue in the sky to be pulled out and the clouds to look more cloud like rather than the gray mess of clouds seen in the upper image. The simple composite of the 3 images was done in PS5.

A little under exposed perhaps but brightening it up would cause the sky to lose all detail.

This image was developed in Lightroom 3. We have a more interesting image, not as flat, more contrast, more pop in the colors, more detail in the sky, and just more interesting to look at.

This image is a 3 frame HDR. Starting with a normal exposure, +1stop and a -2stop to get more blue in the sky. The image also received some adjustment brush work in Lightroom 3 to light up the flowers, the building and the fence structure along with the bench.

A small group of images taken at Patterson Library in Westfield N.Y. All of these images are taken as HDR using a 3 stop bracket to give me the files I needed to produce these results. The last image is actually made up of a normally exposed file, a +1 stop file and a -2 stop file to give me the blue in the sky. After processing in the HDR software I took them into PS5 to correct the converging lines that resulted from the low angles and the 18mm lens I was using to get the perspective I was looking for and the results you see here. The camera was tripod mounted with a cable release.

These two images were taken on Aug 23rd in Westfield New York. They are taken from Hardscrabble Rd over looking Noble Winery and Lake Erie. The smaller image is a 3 frame bracket and HDR conversion. The panorama is made up of a total of 24 images. 8 camera positions to make up the pano with 3 frame bracket at each camera position making a total of 24 frames. Each group of 3 frames were taken into HDR efex Pro and after I added the same settings to each group the 8 resulting images were taken into PS5 to do the pano stitching. The final pano once flattened was almost 500 megs in size.

Single image (actually the -1 stop) processed in Lightroom3. I tried to bring back the detail in the sky and didn’t have a lot of luck. The reason I used the -1stop was because it had the best overall exposure.

Johnson Estate Winery is the oldest estate winery in New York state and it is located on Rt. 20 in Westfield New York.
