Finished Timber Frame at Tanglewood Manor untitled-263_HDR_2-2

Two quick shots taken on Dec 14th 2012. These are more HDR images taken at Tanglewood Manor in Jamestown N.Y. I spent maybe five minutes getting the exposure for these. The camera was set on Aperture Priority, Auto Exposure Bracket, the exposure was Normal, -1 stop and -2 stops. The day was kind of grey and lifeless, HDR was needed to force some pop out of the image. Some contrast, clarity and vibrance  where added in Lightroom 4 after efex HDRpro did its thing. The total time on this shot including shooting and processing is maybe 15minutes.

The below image is what the camera picked as normal (this is straight out of the camera)

This HDR image is made up of 3 handheld exposures taken at Normal, -1, -2 stops and then combined in efex HDR and then taken into photoshop for some final touches.  To start the process off I had to take each image into photoshop to remove elements that the HDR program couldn’t keep from ghosting when the 3 images are combined. Then the images where taken into the HDR program to let it do it’s thing, which I think does a very good job. Then like I stated above it was taken into PS5 for some fine tuning. Location of image is the memory gardens at Tanglewood Manor in Jamestown N.Y.

New Photoshop Technique – Photos from Westfield N.Y. and Chautauqua Institution

10 03 2012

Have been working on a new technique in photoshop to blend a photo with a couple of other layers to give the image a painterly, drawing with a bit of the photo showing through it all.

The photograph was duped in PS5 and that dupe was changed into a black and white and then duped again and some filter effects added to give it a drawing look and then blended and combined on top of the photograph layer.  Then the background texture layer was brought in and moved to the bottom of the stack.  A multiply layer blend was added to the top layer and a black adjustment mask was added to the original photo layer to allow the selected blending of the whole group.

Another ad for a local brewery – self assigned photoshop exercise

11 01 2012

This is a self assigned photoshop exercise using a couple of images I already had on hand. The beer bottle label on the lighthouse is from the semi truck post made yesterday  and the Barcelona lighthouse and  harbor is a sunset panorama of the Barcelona lighthouse and harbor in Westfield N.Y. on Lake Erie is from 2010. The label was made to fit the lighthouse using the free transform tool in PS5. Some density control, contrast adjustment, and selective density control with the layers mask and bush tool was used to make the label appear that it is painted on the lighthouse.

If you have the opportunity to try some of Southern Tier Brewery’s offerings you should try it out.

Your next cold one’s on the way

10 01 2012

This is a composite image of the truck and beer bottle. The truck was taken at ISO 100, f13 @ 60th of a sec. with a 44mm zoom on the lens. The truck was moving at about 60 mph and I was hand holding the camera thru a pan.

The beer bottle was shot in the studio with 2 canon 580 exll on camera flashes, 1 on the camera for fill and one behind the bottle in a 24″x24″ softbox triggered with radio poppers. The on camera flash that was used for fill was 2 stops less than the back light.

Both images where taken into PS5 for the composite, motion blur was added to separate layers and dupes of layers to give me complete control. Some desaturation was added as well as color in the sky, darkening of the corners and sky, and I “constructed” the structure to support the neck of the bottle. I also added some noise to the bottle to better match the trucks noise or grain.

Black & White Conversion

18 10 2011

Photoshop retouching by – Kurt A. Moore – Moore Images Photographic Services – Westfield N.Y.

The original images is a straight black and white conversion. You can see that the image needs some correction to make the image pop. A black and white image needs some true blacks and true whites and everything in between to make a good looking black and white conversion. We are working with a cute snapshot from Molly Kreeger Photography that you can see in the original image that is flat, muddy and overall grayish rather than black and white. With some contrast added a little bit of dodging and burning with the adjustment mask and a tiny bit of softening you turn a flat conversion into an image with a little pop and character.

This comparison is the original image and the results after being worked in niks software silver efex. The grain and sepia tones give the image an aged look. Just playing with different effects.
